I recently decided to take part in a Hollywood Fantasy Draft on the blog Anomalous Material. The draft is in its 4th round, but uncertainty in my schedule made me hold off on participating until the third round. Here's a recap of what I did with my first 2 picks:
Pick 79:Samuel L. Jackson
With my first pick, I’m going with the highly marketable Samuel L. Jackson. SamJack would do great as the lead in my movie as a likable (when he wants to be) tough guy. He’s a big name who would draw in a lot of fans who might not otherwise be interested in the movie. The director I’m thinking of probably isn’t interested in big names, but I would love to see what he did if he had them.
Pick 80: Reese Witherspoon
Trust me, it makes sense in my head. Witherspoon is another highly marketable name. She could also bring in viewers who aren’t typical to the genre, though more likely they’d just tolerate being there a little more if she were in the movie. Either way, she brings something that the genre has never had (though there’s probably a reason for that, fortunately in this setting SHE HAS TO DO IT.)
I was bouncing around a couple of ideas before my picks came up, and eventually decided on a more difficult (but very fun) idea. SamJack was really the key to making this idea work. Well, him and my director, but I figured I could hold off on that. Most of the other participants already have directors in place, and the ones that don't seem unlikely to snatch him up given their current casts.

Introduction
Hey Everyone,
My name is John Parker, and during basketball season I write a blog called Armchair Point Guard. Unfortunately, basketball has an offseason and there's only so much you can say about backup power forwards singing with new teams.
Fortunately for me, my other passion--movies--never take breaks.
In the spirit of my other blog, I'll write a scouting report about myself as a "movie critic," though I don't claim to be much of a "critic" of movies at all.

Strengths:
- Wide range of tastes
- Can get into movies, even if he thinks they're awful
- Ability to stomach gory flicks
- Better than average passion for movies
Weaknesses:
- Tends to buy into storylines easily, ignoring holes in plot
- No film school background (tendency to overlook cinematography goals of the director)
- Struggles with Musicals, (pre-Iron Man) Comic Book movies and fantasy movies geared towards teens
